I've stopped a couple of fights in my day by not allowing them to begin.

More than once, some stupid fucker's taken a swing at me, and I've simply blocked it and stood my ground.

When they realized they'd just had their best shot swatted aside, they had a light bulb moment and quickly saved themselves an ass-kicking.

I saw some of the footage on the news last night.

The girl was terrified. If you're surrounded and outnumbered and being beat, fighting back may not be the best course of action, y'know? It could just feed the fire. All this girl violence is new, too. Lots of girls don't fight, never learned how, don't have the mind set. Then you get little fucktards like the ones that jumped her.

they're talking about charging them as adults, which I have a problem with. As horrible as what they did was, they're still kids, and I've seen a lot of research on how the brain isn't developed at this age, the manager that helps a person make proper decisions is in the process of developing, so teens are incapable of making adult decisions for the most part.

They definitely ought to be prosecuted, but adult jail? Not sure about that.

When I was in 7th grade a friend of mine(a guy) liked a 7th grade girl. He lived across the street from me, she lived 1 block down. He'd ride by on his bike and scream " I love you _____". I can't remember her name right now.
Her older sister, 8th grade, learned that him and I hung out and decided to teach him a lesson by taking me out to the field and kick my ass. I'm eating lunch with my friend, 4 chicks come over and ask me to go talk to them in the field. I said no. The field was where fights happen and teachers couldnt see shit cause of a handball wall. I was helped up and led out to the field. I was hoping my friend would go tell a teacher for me. These chicks were tough, and I knew Id lose. Thankfully another guy friend saw them dragging me out to the field and asked them what thier beef with me was. He got me out of an ass kicking that I didnt deserve.
I grew up with guys so I knew how to fight. However these chicks out numbered me and would've done some damage.
I dont know if I would've hit back back then. Now yes.

They may have known what they were doing to an extent, but no teenager is an adult mentally -- why else can't they vote, or drink, or go to war, or get a checking account without a parental signature?

I agree they should be prosecuted. I agree that they need to have the book thrown at them. But the juvenile book. by law they are still children, no matter what they've fucking done.

Putting these kids, vicious as this one act was, with hardened adult criminals is going to accomplish nothing except turn six more people into hardened criminals themselves. Prison is not rehabilitation; it is a learning ground for more, inventive ways to commit crime. Putting six children -- legally -- in with a bunch of predatory adults will do nothing but ruin six more lives.

Intensive therapy, perhaps a lovely Arizona boot camp, heavy probation and supervision until they're 21, and for fuck sake some parenting classes for the parents making excuses for them instead of holding them responsible for their actions and heavy family therapy is a better option, IMO. At least then these girls will have a chance to learn just how bad what they did was and make restitution for it, perhaps even become better people.

We in this country are far too fucking punitive, and we don't do enough to correct behavior. It's no wonder the rest of the West thinks that we are barbarians.

i agree that prison is like a college on how to become a better criminal but i think male prisons are far worse for those sort of things and this chicks would be going to a minimum security joint....

i guess my whole qualm with instances like this is you can really fuck someone up bad with shots to the back of the head and the tip of the spine....even in mma shots to those places are illegal.
