A team of scientists has completed a carbon dioxide emissions inventory of the United States plotted down to 100-square-kilometer chunks.

The work, known as The Vulcan Project, has already yielded a significant discovery: Previous CO2 estimates that used population as a proxy for emissions overestimated the Northeast's greenhouse-gas generation, while underestimating the coal-heavy Southeast's contribution.

It's definitely an interesting map, shows which states are the true 'culprits' in the CO2 emissions of the United States.

It does more or less look like what I would imagine, but I honestly would have though that Montana, the Dakotas and such would have less of a footprint do to their lower populations in comparison to other states.

I'm in a yellow-orange zone, but that's no surprise since in reality most of the cities on the coast here can essentially be considered a single city, and even green cities are gonna have some medium impact.

I'm in that patch of green under the "A" in Los Angeles.

No coal-burning power plants in my neighborhood, apparently.

My parents house is in the red, I'm in the blue-light green. Siiick.

That's how we do it in the desert.
