I dont know if this has been around for a while but ive just seen it for the first time and loved it.

Dragons: A Fantasy made Real. (http://animal.discovery.com/convergence/dragons/index.html)

Its a Discovery, Animal Planet show, it begins with the frozen remains of a Dragon being found in a glacier, the investigation undertaken by scientists and their theory's and evidence regarding the Dragons existance.
The animation is terrific, and by the end of the show i was sold on the idea of Dragons having existed.
The theory on how they were able to breathe fire was a real eye opener though i'm not sure how much hard science was used in the research and making of this show.
A great theoretical exercise i thought.

Anyone seen this show. I thought it was brilliant, some of the theory's expounded actually made a great deal of sense to me and i would be keen on hearing anyone elses thought's regarding this program.

Here's a link to youtube with pretty much most of the documentary in parts, sorry embeding is disabled.
If you haven't seen it i thoroughly reccomend it.

I didn't see that one. Humph. Dunno how I missed it.

I did see one recently on interest in fossils through the ages; even the ancient Greeks and Romans would collect them. On this show it was believed that the fossils were the inspiration for all of the mythological beasts.

If I'm remembering correctly (I was sort of lit like an xmas tree at the time and playing fetch with the cat, I think), they broke down the mythological creatures in the Odyssey and found fossils that paralleled certain of the stories on various islands in the Aegean.

It had never even occurred to me previously that the ancients would have had access to fossils and been aware of them, let alone collect them. The mythical creatures were the best explanations they could come up with for the strange forms found in the earth.

Yes that makes sense.
You know that feathered dinosaur fossils have been found in China.
What animal do the Chinese have in their mythology?
Uh huh.
;)

I believe that China had the flying fire breathing dragon. I believe that it was the only place that the flying dragon was found.

I do not believe it was a myth, I believe that there were real, flying, fire breathing dragons. I heard a lecture on how they worked several years ago. I can't remember the details but do remember it all seemed very plausible.

I also fail to understand why mythology is not labeled history. guess its because it seems just to weird.

But myths all have their origination in actual happenings which have been exaggerated over the years.

Except for flying fire breathing dragons. They were not exaggerated. I believe that they were real.

I saw that show two years ago when it first came out, was pretty interesting.

I don't necessarily think dragons ever existed, but I do think they could be created via genetic manipulation.

I think the big reason Dragon's are so popular is because they are quire plausible naturally.
