There are many animal lovers out there. I am one of them. We've all heard of PETA and other groups like this.
What about the groups that take it to the extreme? Do they have a right on behalf of animals to break the law? To harass people?
For example ALF.
"On the early morning of March 6 the ALF visited the home of Jason Bratt, [address deleted], Portland, Oregon. The phrase 'Drop SSK' were painted on his garage door and the letters ALF were scrawled across the side of his car in black spray paint. Jason Bratt is the first vice-president of Wachovia Securities in Portland Oregon, an investment firm which owns over half a billion dollars in shares in GlaxoSmithKline. GlaxoSmithKline is the largest customer of Huntingdon Life Sciences. This is a warning to Wachovia; sell your shares in GSK or the ALF will continue to target the homes and property of your employees."
"Edyth London, you and your work are deplorable. You are given paychecks in exchange for addicting primates, the closest kin that the human species knows, to numerous sickeningly addicting drugs like crystal meth. For forcing these innocent and sensitive beings to suffer through a type of hell that they would never encounter if it wasn't for your deranged science you deserve to know true justice.
This is why on Febuary 3rd 2008 we left an incendiary device at your house at 1246 Shadybrook in Beverly Hills. Edyth, the fire that night was exactly the size we wanted it to be. It was just a little outreach because we want to see you make the sound ethical choice to stop vivisecting primates. We know what we are doing and fires can be much larger.
Edyth, your secrets are very ugly and the spotlights on them are getting brighter. The LA Times says that you plan to expand mad science to include teenage human beings. They also pointed to the fact that you torture monkeys and Phillip Morris picks up the tab. The LA Times didn't ask but we will, 'Do you get rich while animals (and soon humans) suffer all in the name of making tobacco products more addicting?'
You make us sick and you inspire us into action Edyth. As each day begins and nothing that you own is burning consider yourself lucky.
Now is the time to stop vivisecting.
We don't back down.
Ever.

People that resort to tactics like that are terrorists, even if their motives are good.
While I agree that some kinds of animal testing are brutal and need to be controlled, I don't think that it is any more appropriate to blow up (or threaten to do so) a scientist or businessman for animal rights, than I think it's OK to shoot a doctor to protest abortion.
I love animals, ive had or been involved with them most of my life.
I understand the need for some types of testing ie medical
research.Other testing on animals for purely commercial interests
needs to stop.
Militant terrorist acts and violence by groups such as ALF only alienates people from their cause. In fact i imagine alot of bthose miltant activists are no better than the people they claim to be trying to stop.

Well, so long as no one is actually getting hurt and property damage is'nt to high I honestly can't say I have a problem with groups like ALF spray painting places and, my personal favorite throwing a bucket of red paint on people wearing a [real] fur coat.
I don't approve of animal testing period if it hurts them in any way, however if it does them no harm, then I accept it until our computers become powerful enough to do these tests virtually, which honestly can be done for several things as it is but is'nt utilized.

All that throwing paint on someone wearing a fur is going to do is cause them to go out and buy another fur. So it's rather a pointless operation.
And the whole thing is rather absurd, IMO. I was leaving LAX once, and PETA was outside protesting, "Fur is murder!" etc. I was decked out in leather -- boots and jacket, and some of the people appeared to be wearing leather sneakers or belts.
So why pick on people wearing just fur? That's what I don't understand.

That's why you get a pick-up truck full of red paint and follow them around for a week like a spy, do it every time, after a few times I'm sure they'd just give up buying them, plus fur is expensive, so it's really only the really rich people that would go buy another one.
So why pick on people wearing just fur? That's what I don't understand.
Because fur is so much more gaudy then leather, plus alot of things that look like leather are faux leather.

It could be considered harassment. Freedom of speech can include your attire. Just because you think fur shouldn't be worn doesn't mean the other person shouldn't wear it. I consider it tacky but I'm not going to harass the person for wearing it.
Destroying property is also against the law. Two wrongs don't make a right.

Since doing so is technically an attack and CAN be harmful (yes, it can, MANY people are violently allergic to paint and let's not even discuss getting the shit in your eyes......fucking PAINFUL!), do you also support said fur wearer's right to pull a LEGALLY LICENSED firearm and ridding he rest of us of the attackers?
I do.

There's an animal lib movement out this way. Half the time they got the wrong address, the scientists dont live there anymore or they moved out since the family was tired of the harassment. They've also broken windows at a police officers home(not even his, he bought it for his elderly parents) and the elderly lady hid in a closet afraid to come out. I read an article where they went to a house in Santa Cruz and pushed thier way into a scientists home, and hit the guy and terrorized his family. Where's it end? Does someone die? FBI has put an act out (the animal enterprise terrorist act) basically says you disrupt any business that deals with animals, vandalizes, destroys is a federal offence and can be labeled as a domestic terrorist.
They have an issue with animal testing. Ok, that's fine. Protest the campus and thier office building. To take it to their homes is crossing the line. To take it to thier kids soccer games and yell out "Your daddy kills puppies and kittens" is asking for an ass whooping.
If you take it to a personal level, their homes or family functions, is ridiculous. To expose a child to your assinine behavior is not acceptable. You are disturbing someones peace. You are disrupting communities. You are trying to get a point across in the worst way. Get laws changed, do it the right way. Go through your local laws, congress and gets bills passed. Don't act like a bully cause we all know what happens to the schoolyard bully in the end.

This is exactly my problem with said groups.
Once they take it to a personal level, it's no longer about the "animal testing" as much as it's just about a bunch of fucking morons who are brave enough in groups to harass their fellow citizens when they likely wouldn't be quite so brave alone. Once they step over that line, they are no different than any other gang/mob.
IMHO, it's more about "fitting in" with most of them than it is the actual "cause". Much like a cult.
They really should pass laws making it perfectly legal to shoot and kill any of these fuckwits who bring danger to your home and family. Here in Georgia (and Florida), we are well within our legal rights to shoot these bastards as soon as they become a threat.
Seeing as how many of these groups are quite fond of arson and the use of explosives, I view them all as a potential threat.
Terrorists? No. Idiots with access to potentially lethal weapons and a absolute lack of sense or decency? Definitely!
