Film legend Charlton Heston dead at 84

LOS ANGELES - Charlton Heston, who won the 1959 best actor Oscar as the chariot-racing "Ben-Hur" and portrayed Moses, Michelangelo, El Cid and other heroic figures in movie epics of the '50s and '60s, has died. He was 84.

The actor died Saturday night at his home in Beverly Hills with his wife Lydia at his side, family spokesman Bill Powers said.

Powers declined to comment on the cause of death or provide further details.

Well, I knew the guy was very sick, and was only a shadow of his former self, but somehow knowing that old "Blue Eyes" will never be returning to the Planet of the Apes still makes me kind of wistful.

Didn't you see him in Bowling for Columbine? Even then, he was really sick, not in his right mind, and clearly suffering from Parkinson's.

it was the only time Michael Moore has made me cringe; Heston really wasn't playing with a full deck when he got interviewed for the film. It wasn't a fair fight.
