Sorry I don't know were to post this.
I found myself asking this question, and I cannot stop asking it. I really need people's own answers on this question, to understand it myself.
Is there such thing as too much knowledge? Can it put someone at risk? Or is it better to be not so much as ignourant in life? What I mean is knowledge about all facets of life. Knowledge of life, death, aliens, secret government activites, business and financial, love, the mind, how we were made etc.

I think to some extent too much knowledge can indeed be a bad thing only if it makes someone jealous or angry. To some extent I think ignorance can be bliss, if only a false sense of it. It could also drive a person mad I think.

It is within my opinion that the only time there is such a thing as to much knowledge is when your brain is not wired to be able to process vast amounts of information and memorize it.
Otherwise I don't believe that that there is such a thing as to much knowledge, indeed learning is part of the meaning of life.

Iori that does make sense, but could someone not learn something that is in fact true, but it goes against everything that we consider normal? Take for instance Galileo, did he not have "too much information"?

In cases like that it's not that someone learned to much, but that we were all unaware of it, or in the case of Galileo they were a bunch of idiotic religious fundamentalists.

True. In the sense of maximum capacity, then Iori your spot on. I do admit when things like Galileo do happen they are circumstantial.

I don't think there is such a thing as too much knowledge -- our brains are designed to soak it up all our lives, so it's natural to seek it.
There was a sci-fi short story that was rather interesting though, about a time when people's brains were full up with information, and they had to forget something in order to learn something else. it was quite interesting, but I can't remember who wrote it.
I think it's a catch22 situation when it comes to knowledge.
In a perfect world i believe all knowledge should be freely available and shared by all. The problem i see is that there are certain types of knowledge, particularly of a technological nature, that some in society would use to benefit themselves or an ideology.
There are far to few altruistic people in the world, especially in positions where such knowledge is found.
The answer my friend is blowing in the wind. :)
@ GN, i believe i have that short story, i think it may have been Phillip K Dick that wrote it. I'll see if i can't find it when i get home from work.

I think you're right, I think it was Dick.
What a visionary he was!
What a visionary he was!
Yes he was indeed, and receives far less credit than he deserves.
I love Clarke and Asimov, but Dick was as influential if not more so imo.

Is there such thing as too much knowledge?
We are kept in our cocoon of ignornace by the Nazi/Military Industrial Complex.
The truth is that if all the accumlated knowledge on earth including all the secret stuff thaqt is known were to be compared with all of the knowledge that really exists it would be like the relative size of a single atom compared to the size of our solar system.
Just a tiny peek at what is really out there would blow your mind and incapacitate you with sheer awe for a couple of days.
For instance, if you got one little teenie tiny peek at what Saturn really looks like, you would be mentally incapacitated for a couple of days because of the enormity and magnificence of it.
Can it put someone at risk?
Only if the information was obtained illegally.
Or is it better to be not so much as ignourant in life? What I mean is knowledge about all facets of life. Knowledge of life, death, aliens, secret government activites, business and financial, love, the mind, how we were made etc.
Its your choice. The more you know the greater your realization of how little you know becomes.
Many take up the search for knowledge and then, somewhere along the way, say, "Thats it. I don't want to go any further. I've seen enough. I don't thinkI need to know anymore."
Then there are those, like myself, that keep plunging ahead, much like running through a dense forest at night, never knowing what is going to reach out. Just for the sheer joy of knowledge.
I currently enjoy the knowledge that there is a breathable atmosphere on the moon and civilzation much more advanced than ours.

John, so your saying that seeing an advanced civilization on another planet would incapacitate some one why? Because their brains could not handle it? Seeing massive buildings or other stuff on another planet would not be that shocking IMO. But then again I really would not know 8)
In reply to John.
Likewise John, i'd love to know it all, all the secrets, all the deals.
Just to be able to venture into space, just once before i die would be awesome.
The minute you stop being excited by learning new things, even mundane day to day stuff is the day you might as well give it all away imo.
I hope you are right about all this stuff, the moon, saturn, mars etc John (i wish i could be as certain as you), because that would mean that we really do have a chance to be more than hairless apes stuck on a ball of dirt in the middle of nowhere.
All we need to do is take the knowledge back from those that have claimed it for themselves.
A day of reckoning.

I agree. You don't know. But I can assure you that your brain could not handle it no matter what you think. And its not just massive buildings. Its all the other stuff that goes with them.

I hope you right John. Not to de-rail the thread, but what kind of stuff can one expect to find on Saturn.

Well there are many people there who do not wake up in the morning looking for commies or islamo-fascists to kill or post all day long about their mythical god and his mythical son Jesus. :)

Hell, that's anyone in my house here on Earth.

Or post all day debunking their mythical god and his mythical son Jesus. :)

Knowledge.
Shit, why get me started.
Learn something new,
every day. No matter how
trivial.
Can it be dangerous ?
Yes.
Some knowledge is granted
with a proxy.
Never reveal it.
It's called security classification.
I've revealed that I've seen, what
was called a "floater".
I've also revealed some of my
experiences of when I was in
Nicaragua.
I'm still here. My security classification
still holds.
So, have I revealed all I know ?
Simple answer, no.
Will I ?
No idea.
Regards,
Lex
PS : Lori, find my slip-up.
After re-reading this post, I
left it in.

I believe there is definitely a point at which you have too much knowledge.
Like, what if you knew the meaning of life? What would be the meaning of living your life anymore if you actually knew what it meant?
Like someone before me said... there is knowledge out there that we, as physical human beings, should not know because it is very damaging to our psyche, and it could cause you to commit suicide. Not that it's depressing, but just that it's so overwhelming that you feel absolutely helpless and alone, and everything doesn't seem real anymore. There are certain mental barriers that we must chip away at slowly. So maybe too much information is only too much if it's too much at a time. You need to build towards things, just like you need to watch the whole movie before enjoying the ending.
Also, be ready to not like the truth at first. Knowledge is frowned upon by our little convenience demon that sits on our shoulder, telling us to be dependent on everything just the way it is or else bad things will happen.
Personally, I know the ending, and okay it sucks to know the ending.... but I'd like to get lost in everything between here and the ending, because that's what is really interesting.
