OK gear heads, my Equinox supposedly takes Dexcool instead of regular antifreeze/coolant.

I read some really bad things online about how corrosive it is.

I'm just wondering what the real scoop on Dexcool is. Will it eat my hoses eventually, or is it really OK?

it's ok....if the car calls for dexcool(the pink shit), you have little choice....it's good for about 100k miles....in what i have seen, i have not really come across anything corroding due to it but i have been out of the shop for a while....

Thanks, BD -- I know some stuff about cars, but not enough to sort out which websites are full of shit about something like this.

DexCool (http://60degreev6.com/forum/showthread.php?p=323396)

Seems only a small pct. of
GM/DC vehicles have this
problem.

The article above gives a
VERY valid reason for this.

Bad/poor ground straps can
cause all kinds of havoc on
multiple systems on a vehi-
cle. Cooling systems included.

Finding these ground posts
can be a chore, but the article
gives a nice DIY procedure to
isolate the circuit.

If your car does have DexCool
in it, and you want to change;
a VERY thorough flushing is
required. (this goes for switching
ANY types of anti-freeze)

Also, don't use 100% DexCool.
It requires a 50/50 mix with
water.

Hope this helps a bit.

If not, I'll look into it further.

Lex

I try to be thorough.

Just as if I'm talking
to a customer.

Personally, I buy new
vehicles.

But, I know I'm not normal.

I'll attempt to answer any
Q~ thrown at me.

Lex
