After hugging my dad, I looked
at my Colonel. He will forever be
that, to me.
He nods. A slight smile. And salutes.
I'm mentally floored, but maintain.
I salute back.
I walk off the tarmac with my dad.
At the car, I turn. Tears stream down
my cheeks. My dad is in the same
situation.
He says, "Get in. Tales are for later".
"Nice ride", I say. Fucking Mercedes.
Feels like a hearse.
He hands me a jewelry box. Great.
Guess I get my earrings back.
"Open it", he says. I do.
Inside are Jump Wings, and a CIB.
He says, " I'm authorized to pin you".
I shake my head. I think about Jones.
"So, how's Spike" ?
He laughs and we drive off the tarmac.
