Yeah. I said it.

I know that doesn't make sense to most of you, but I've been doing a lot of thinking. It's important to note my disdain for U.S. involvement over "there" which by now is "everywhere." I would like to join as a field medic if my *cough* record *cough* allows me to join in the first place.

Can anybody clear that up for me? I really don't feel like being pressured by the used car salesman turned GI's at the recruiting center.

As long as one is an honorable soldier, being a soldier is an honorable career.

If you PM me and lemme know what kinda past problems you are wondering about, I'll get in touch with a Major I know and ask him.

Best of luck to ya bro.

But then they're gonna ask you to eat whatever it is they serve you. Do they have vegan MREs?

If that's the price I have to pay to save lives, it is what it is. I'm sick of constantly complaining about my government and their actions and not contributing anything but harsh criticism. I've had two close friends hurt, both in Iraq, and I want to do whatever I can to help those men and women who are serving our country. Regardless of how much bullshit this war is, people need saving, Iraqi or American. I need to sacrifice my own well being to see what exactly is going on out there. I hope I can get in.

Well then, I wish you the best of luck, mate. It's a lofty goal, and there is great honour in it. Just promise us you will keep in touch should you be accepted and get transferred out to the battle zone.

DFB..Have you thought of becoming a medic here in the states? I know for a fact where I live they are losing medics faster than they make them. Not too many people are looking at being a paramedic opr a firefighter as a career anymore. The department I work for is paying people to go to medic school.

I haven't Six.

I was considering becoming a wilderness EMT, though. What all does becoming an EMT entail? Just EMT 1 and 2?

*waves* Hi I'm an EMT. First thing you need in most states is your first responder cert. Red Cross can do that for you. I think it's a 3-4 hour class and you get a card. Then you sign up for EMT classes. It's nice now since it's all gone National Registry and once you get certified you can go state to state. You have to take the classes, pass them and take a final. You then send off the cert to your city who then issues you an EMT card. AMR is the big national medical response company.

As for Paramedic you can pay yourself, which out here in Cali 3 years ago was $6000. I know AMR once you're employed there as an EMT will help pay for medic school.

Hope this helps!

DFB there are different levels to a EMT with paramedic being the highest. You are essentially on the same level as a nurse, except you "diagnosis" and treat in the field prior to and during transport.
