Master mojo,

Would you happen to know the best route for yours truly to procure a job in this general field.

Field work or museum work (even a fucking janitor! haha) would be so damned awesome.

learn me, wise one

Man im only an amateur myself, though i was fortunate enough to have a number of family friends who were anthropoligists and archaeologists growing up that took me with them on excursions and digs. It's where i got my love for history from, my mum also has a couple of degree's and taught history at Uni.
Everything ive learnt is from them and reading heaps. A couple of years ago i sat the mature age entrance exam hoping to get into Uni and study archaeology, i passed the test but couldnt afford to do it at the time, lol, 4 kids, mortgage, bills etc.

Sign up for a course if you have a further education facility that covers it, most of them do, doesn't have to be a degree.

Best way to get ya foot in the door unfortunately means volunteering to do some field work.
Once you've been on a couple of digs or helpin out at a museum with some newbie work you'll
at least have something to put in a CV. Go to your local museum and see if you can get to sit down with the curator or chat to some of the employee's, pretty basic stuff but these are the sorts of people that if they see someone with a passion for the field will try and help you out anyway they can. It's such an under resourced specialty that they'll more than likely try to find a way to get you involved.

Have you got any local sites of interest, go and check them out, research them. Your local museum or university will more than likely be involved in local sites, if you can show a good general knlowledge of what is happening in those area's you'll more than likely be regarded as an asset to be utilised. Your best bet is to talk to people involved in your area and volunteer for some field work, it wont get you any dollars in the short term but will get you in the door.

Hope thats some help mate.

(my wife finishes uni in 6 months and im going to sit the entrance exam again, and if we can afford it im going to do it, lol, she can be the breadwinner for awhile)

Yea. I have looked into volunteering. That sounds a-ok to me.

Unfortunately, there seem to be none within 1000 miles.

I've heard they have quite a few anthropological digs in the nevada/arizona and north/south dakota areas.

you know me, i'm all up for ANY move.

Firestar, you wanna bring me to Canada? I think I scare mojo.

All I need is a closet sized room with a mattress pad or blanket, pillow, facilities and a bit of food.

I'm excellent with kids as well. Yup.

Instant babysitter. Wait, do you have any that still need "sittin"?

If I were to actually make the jump, how much would you suggest that I have in my pocket when I arrive?

I'm not sure the "cost of living".

If I were busting ass to get a job and place to live, give me an estimate as to a hard cash amount to carry me over for at least 3 months.

If you can that is haha.

J, bring you to Canada? You wanna dig through 2 feet of snow before you hit dirt man?
Only digs I know of would be on the west coast anyways. British Columbia. Many Native sites there. There used to be some on the east coast looking for Viking settlements and artifacts, but I don't believe they are ongoing.
Never knew you had such an interest.

Jasn, I am not but 150 miles or so from you and I have a dig going on just down the street from my station. While doing site work for a new subdivision they ran across a old Indian burial ground . The developer did the right thing and set the plot off to the side and they are currently digging there now.
