Its true i plan on one day being the worlds oldest headbanger. :D

It seems so long ago that i got my first "heavy" record, AC/DC's "Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap" around 1979 for my 14th birthday.
Since then ive amassed over 500 vinyl albums and about 100 or so CD's plus numerous video's and DVD's, not to mention posters, badges, patches and other merchandise. When i was 17 i got together with a bunch of mates and we started our own band ( Armoured Car ), playing mostly Black Sabbath covers, but after a half a dozen gigs we realised we were shit and didnt last long after that.
Ive even managed to brainwash my kids, my oldest daughter is 11 and plays the drums, one of my mates who is in a metal band here in Adelaide teaches her, shes pretty damn good too. One of my twins who is 7, her favorite band is "3 Inches of Blood" and she wants to be just like Jimmy Page. I still have to work on the other 2 kids, they like pop and hip hop which really hurts. :)
Anyway so now im into my 40's and i can still remember my old man telling me when i was a teenager that i'd soon grow out of that sort of music, haha, i still remind him about that.
So even though i'm an atheist, if there is a God i hope he lets me live long enough to apply to the Guiness book of records for the title of the oldest headbanger ever. We all have to have a dream, and thats mine!!

Just for the record i still go and catch a show at least once a month and more than hold my own in the mosh pit, in fact i think i'm a bit of a running joke around these parts, "oh man theres that crazy old dude bangin' his head again". The day i cant do this anymore is the day they need to strap me down and give me an injection.

I will be with you then. In my teens I had hair down to my ass, caught whatever metal show I could, and still rock out today. Although I dont go to many shows anymore. My 7 y.o. even likes some Godsmack with her Hannah Montanna.

Yeh i like Godsmack too. I'll even watch Hannah Montana with my kids. (does that make me a dirty old man or a good dad)

Im really into Lamb of God, 3 Inches of Blood and Clutch at the moment, plus i still like my punk as well, Rise Against being top of my list, been to see them twice last year, bloody awesome.

You know what pisses me off more than anything is all these sub genres of Metal they seem to have these days, back in my day (christ i sound like an old codger) if you were into Metal you were a Headbanger. It didnt matter that you listened to Judas Priest, Black Sabbath, Venom, Celtic Frost, Witchfinder General etc, it was all just Metal.
Now headbangers seem to pigeon hole themselves in these stupid sub genres. They only listen to Death metal, or Doom or Black or Power or Speed or Metalcore, they dont seem to appreciate the music for what it is unless they've been told by the Record company's or the media that what their listening too belongs to their genre.
You know i have friends in the Goth and Hardcore metal scene that wont go to gigs together because they dont want to mix with those other crowds yet we'll all go out together to party's or the pub or whatever, they even admit they like some of the bands the other guy's listen too but it's like its not cool to be into shit outside of their little clique. they laugh at me coz i couldnt care less but thats the beauty of being an old fart, i can get away with it. :D
Hell it may even be a conspiracy by the music industry to split the music scene into these little sub genres for some nefarious reason. :)
I listen to all sorts of stuff, i couldnt give a toss what genre it is, if its good metal thats all that counts in my book.

You know mojo, it has always been that way with kids. Cant hang out with the jocks, cheerleaders etc, its not cool. To me metal is metal. If they are not willing to broaden their horizons, then it is their loss. Plus what does that set them up for later in life if they are so willing to pigeionhole themselves now?
